There are many different kinds of tests that can be used to diagnose back pain. Any test related to back pain is based upon the location, duration and severity of the pain, as well as your medical history. Chiropractic treatment may use just a combination of your symptoms, medical history and how your back feels to the chiropractor as a diagnostic method.
Medical back pain tests are usually expensive and may require several hours to complete. You should always consult a medical professional or back pain treatment center to determine which test is right for you. Back pain related to nerve damage can be particularly difficult to assess, so don’t be surprised if your physician has you take more than one of the tests below before making a diagnosis.
Common types of back pain diagnostic tests include:
Imaging tests:
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
- X-Ray
- Computer Tomography (CT) Scan
- Bone density and nerve function tests
- Enhanced CAT Scan
- Radiolographic imaging
- Bone scan
- Bone Mineral Density (BMD) Measurement
